when I grow up

Today in social studies, we were talking about ways that people (adults and children) earn an income. The students were sharing everything from cleaning houses to selling lemonade to being a doctor. Then our discussion lead us to this question: "How do you want to earn an income when you're an adult?" In other words, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" They came up almost everything under the sun, including typical responses like professional athlete, veterinarian, teacher, and artist.

Then I started reminiscing about my childhood when I was asked that same question in an interview for our hometown newspaper. I don't remember why I was interviewed, but I do remember my response to that question. "I want to be a pharmaceutical sales rep," I stated confidently. Even as a third grader, I knew how to pronounce that phrase correctly, and I knew what it meant (with some help from Mom). I obviously didn't quite follow that plan, but that's okay. I'm happy teaching children.

Then I started thinking and I asked myself the same question. 'Hmm...what do I want to be when I grow up?' After some serious daydreaming, I came up with a seemingly perfect solution. I want to be a teacher on Mondays and Tuesdays, a photographer on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and a personal trainer on Fridays. So now I have the solution to my personal career happiness, now I just have to figure out how to make it work! Anything's possible, right?!
