second grade

Four days down, 176 to go! Let me just say that I love second grade!!! I have to admit, I was a little apprehensive at first. I didn't know if I could be so happy and nice and soft-spoken all the time. I thought I'd have to be this character and put on a show everyday. I was used to talking to fourth graders almost like they were adults. I was used to raising my voice, dealing with middle school-like behaviors, and having to be a strict, rigid teacher. Though fourth grade had its' benefits, second grade suits me much better. It's less stressful, and the children are just too darn cute!

As I was eating lunch with my class, one of them looked at me and said, "Ms. West, you're my favorite teacher ever." She said it with such sincerity and seriousness. My heart just melted!

As always, there are a few that push your buttons. I have four of them. All boys. We've only had four days of school, but it only took one for me to figure out my "extra special" second graders. I foresee lots of discussions about staying on-task, sharing, and treating our friends respectfully. Gotta love those talks!

With that said, I'm looking forward to a wonderful year. I have a great feeling about second grade :)
