My friend has been attending crossfit classes for several months and has been raving about them. She tried to persuade me to go with her, and I finally gave in when a Groupon was offered. I attended my first class last Tuesday. The workout of the day (WOD) consisted of this: 50 squats, 7 muscle-ups, and 10 snatches. If there's an exercise that you can't do, then you have to do the modified version x 3. I can't do muscle-ups, so I had to the modification-pull-ups and dips. Remember, it's the modified exercise multiplied by three for whatever exercise you can't do. For me, that meant 21 pull-ups and 21 dips. We had to complete 3 rounds of the workout as fast as possible. In 22 minutes and 47 seconds, I completed 150 squats, 63 pull-ups (using a band to make it easier), 63 dips (again, using a band to make it easier) and 30 snatches. If I remember correctly, I burned about 600 calories in that short amount of time. I also couldn't raise my arms above my shoulders for two days, but I suppose it was worth it.
Yesterday, I attended my second class, and I think it was more exhausting than the first. We did 6 rounds of the following: 24 squats, 24 push-ups, 24 walking lunges, and a 400 meter run. That's 144 of each exercise and a 1.5 mile run. It was rough!!! Of the twelve people who finished all rounds (3 new people stopped after either 4 or 5), I came in 8th place at 32:47. I burned 670 calories, which was great, but I can't walk too well today. My legs are incredibly sore!
Here is a short video that someone put together with clips from the Ultimate Gym, where I've been attending.
Even though I have 10 more classes to attend, I can officially cross this resolution off my list! :)
