I started reading My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult on the cruise last week. I didn't get too far that week, but I finished it up while the girls were at swim practice on Friday. In case you don't already know the synopsis, here it is from my perspective.
When she is about three-years-old, doctors diagnose Kate with leukemia. Her parents, Sara and Brian, are devastated, understandably. Their eldest, Jesse, is not a match to be a donor. With the help of a doctors, they create a child that will match Kate's bone marrow. Throughout their young lives, Kate and Anna undergo numerous surgeries and hospitalizations in order to keep Kate alive. At age thirteen, Anna decides that she just can' t do it anymore and hires a lawyer to sue her parents for legal rights to make her own medical choices.
You'll have to read the book to find out the unexpected twist at the end. My mouth literally fell open as I read the last ten pages! I was so shocked!
This story was also told as a movie. It's in our que and supposed to be here by the end of the week. I've heard it was a great movie but nothing like the book. I guess that's usually the case-the book trumps the movie!
