need a turkey recipe?

This week, I had my second graders write a recipe about how to cook a turkey. First, we brainstormed possible ingredients. I got some normal responses, like salt, pepper, stuffing, etc. Then I got some answers that made me giggle on the inside, like grease, flour, and hot sauce. After listing ingredients, they wrote about what to do. Here are some of my favorites....

Student A
Step 1: Hunt the turkey with an arrow.
Step 2: Put it in the oven.
Step 3: Put it on the table and eat it.

Student B
Step 1: Kill the turkey and put it on the table.
Step 2: Put it in the microwave.
Step 3: Eat the turkey.

Student C
(This one is from another second grade classroom, but it's just too funny to leave out).
Step 1: Put the turkey in the oven for about 20 minutes.
Step 2: Add salt, pepper, and a pinch of olive oil.
Step 3: Add seasoning and serve.

Some other funny steps I remember reading from various students: put the oven on 500 degrees, cook the turkey for about 5 minutes, pull the feathers off the turkey.

I hope you were able to choose a good recipe for your Thanksgiving turkey! Please let us know if you need any others. We'd be happy to create them :)
