It's race day!

My survival kit before and during a long run-water to help keep me hydrated, a watch to make sure I'm not slacking too much, an ipod to help keep my mind occupied and out of complete boredom, an energy gel pack to help quickly repair my muscles and give me an energy boost, and a banana for the potassium to help keep my joints strong and healthy.

My post survival kit-ice pack/heating pad, Icy Hot and/or Bengay, aspirin of some sort, and a massage if at all possible. They all serve the same purpose; they cure old, achy joints and muscles.

I often ask myself why I choose to put my body, particularly my knees and ankles, through all of the aches and pains, but then I just think about crossing the finish line on race day. It's a feeling I can't fully describe. It's invigorating. It's a feeling of accomplishment. It's just knowing that you set a goal, trained hard for it, and eventually you'll reach it. So today, as I run 13.1 miles around South Charlotte, I'll be thinking about that finish line. Wish me luck everyone!
