Have you filled a bucket today?

On Friday, I read the book Have you filled a bucket today? to my class of fourth graders. I'll try to summarize it as best as possible. Basically, the author begins by stating that every person in the world carries around an invisible bucket, and a person's bucket is full when they're happy and feel good. But they're sad and lonely when they're bucket is empty. Bucket fillers are the people who give compliments, show others that they care about them, and help the world be a better place. When someone is kind, they fill others' buckets, as well as their own. Bucket dippers, on the other hand, are those who have empty buckets and try to fill their own by dipping into others' buckets. Bullies...pessimists...these are the bucket dippers.

So each day you have several opportunities to be a bucket filler. At the end of the day as yourself, 'Have I filled a bucket today?' If the answer is no, then you have some work to do!
